With less than a month until the start of the new school year, the Connetquot School District has a new leader in place.

The Board of Education accepted the resignation of former Superintendent of Schools Joseph Centamore on Tuesday, saying, "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Centamore was the superintendent for three years.

News 12 reached out to the district for more information about Centamore's departure but was referred to a letter posted on the district's website from newly appointed acting Superintendent of Schools Bryan Frank.

In the letter, Frank said he is honored to serve following Centamore's resignation and that returning to the district is "both a privilege and a responsibility I do not take lightly."

Frank outlined his background in education, including previous roles as director of social studies and interim principal at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School.

He also served as executive director of instructional technology for the Carle Place School District, director of social studies and an elementary principal in the Smithtown Central School District, and chairperson and teacher in the social studies department for the Port Washington School District.

“With a passion rooted in teaching, I have also served as a lecturer at Stony Brook University for the past six years,” Frank wrote.

It also says he completed a tour of duty in Iraq with the Army National Guard while working as a teacher.

Before entering education, Frank served as an officer with the New York Police Department.

“As Acting Superintendent, my priority is to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining the stability and momentum of our schools,” Frank wrote. “Our focus will remain on providing exceptional educational opportunities, supporting the well-being and growth of every student and working collaboratively with our faculty, staff, families and community partners.”

He concluded by thanking the community for the opportunity to serve and said he looks forward to working with students, staff and families, adding that his door is always open to anyone in need of assistance.
