Ahead of the World Cup, which begins this week in the tri-state area, health experts are warning about outbreaks of Ebola and measles in the U.S.

Connecticut has not reported any cases of measles or Ebola.

Concerns include leadership gaps at the CDC and reduced global health funding.

Measles poses a greater threat than Ebola due to declining vaccination rates and the virus’ ability to spread in crowds.

The CDC reported more than 2,000 measles cases in 38 states and Washington, D.C., as of June 4, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Cases stemmed from 30 separate outbreaks and have resulted in at least 127 hospitalizations since the start of the year.

The CDC said 92% of cases occurred in unvaccinated people, and 72% occurred in people 19 and younger.

The MMR vaccine is the most effective protection against measles.
