Looking for a summer day trip on Long Island? Bayville may be the hidden gem you've been searching for!
Located on Long Island's North Shore, the waterfront village offers everything from family-friendly beach activities to historic seafood dining, making it a popular destination during the warmer months.
At Centre Island Beach, visitors can take advantage of a wide range of amenities while enjoying views of Oyster Bay Harbor and the Long Island Sound. The beach features swimming areas, pickleball courts, picnic spaces, athletic fields, a dog park, and even a protected turtle nesting preserve. "There’s pickleball, there’s swimming, there’s restrooms, we have picnic areas, there’s a multipurpose field, there’s a preserve for turtle nesting," said Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joe Saladino.
Just a short walk away sits one of Bayville's waterfront restaurants Wall's Wharf has been serving customers for more than a century and continues to draw visitors with its waterfront setting and classic seafood menu. "Lobster rolls, the clams, the oysters, and seafood, we're a seafood restaurant, but chicken fingers and French fries for kids, we cater to everything," said Wall's Wharf Bar Manager Michael Murphy.
Murphy says summer is the restaurant's busiest season. His family has operated the business since the 1930s, continuing a tradition that has made Wall's Wharf a longtime favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Whether it's a day at the beach, a seafood meal overlooking the water, or both, Bayville offers the kind of classic Long Island summer experience that keeps people coming back year after year.
