A Nassau County marching band returned home champions from an upstate competition this weekend.

The Mineola Mustang Marching Band won the New York State Field Band Conference Championship at Syracuse University on Sunday.

The group captured the Small School 1 division with a score of 94.025, district officials said.

Community members welcomed the students back with a victory celebration at Mineola High School in Garden City Park Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs arrived at the school with a police escort, trophy in hand, and being showered with confetti by friends and family.
