Kids coping with a parent or sibling's cancer diagnosis or other life-threatening illnesses are finding comfort in horses.

Campers from SIBSPlace summer camp program, a nonprofit organization based in Rockville Centre that works with children who have siblings or parents suffering from cancer and other illnesses, visited HorseAbility today.

HorseAbility provides equine therapy to individuals facing mental health challenges. The program helped children manage stress and support overall well-being.

Campers enjoyed an afternoon riding and interacting with horses in the fields and stables.

HorseAbility staff says these horses provide hope and a calming presence for kids.

"It is wonderful for these particular kids, because the connection with the horses really allows them to be at peace and themselves," said Alicia Levy with HorseAbility.

HorseAbility says kids from SIBSPlace come every summer and they're always so excited to be around the horses.
