A teaching assistant charged with stalking a student was fired during a committee meeting Tuesday night at Valley Stream North High School.
Police say Scott Chung, 59, allegedly approached the 17-year-old victim inside the school library and asked a series of invasive personal questions on Sept. 14.
This included inquiries about drug and alcohol use, relationship status, her work schedule, her father’s work schedule, her parents’ divorce and whether she sees her mother.
He also told the student that he pulled her attendance records and questioned why she was absent so much, according to court documents.
The student informed police that Chung had initiated similar conversations with her on three different occasions.
During one instance, the student said she noticed Chung show up during gym class and stare directly at her.
Court documents say the encounters negatively impacted her mental wellbeing and made her afraid that he would appear at her home or workplace.
A temporary order of protection was issued, and he was ultimately released on his own recognizance.
