A Lindenhurst man was sentenced to seven to 15 years in prison for a drunk driving crash in 2025 that killed 55-year-old Craig White in Freeport.
Bryan Mizhirumbay was sentenced Monday in an emotional courtroom hearing attended by family members of both White and Mizhirumbay.
"I don't have my dad anymore, but at least there was some responsibility taken," said Destiny White, Craig White's daughter.
Prosecutors said Mizhirumbay was driving more than 100 mph when he ran a red light and slammed into White's vehicle as White was driving home from work at AHRC Nassau in Freeport.
According to prosecutors, White's car went through a fence and caught fire near South Long Beach Avenue.
Prosecutors also said Mizhirumbay had a blood alcohol concentration of more than twice the legal limit.
"This is something that we cannot stand for, this drinking and driving," Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said. "He was going 106 mph in a 30-mph zone. [Craig White] cared for everyone around him in his community, and he lost his life. Because this defendant couldn't call for a cab or Uber."
"He's admitted during his plea, as well as to me privately, as well, to law enforcement ... he has an aggravated [charge]. Obviously, it indicates that he had more than one drink," said Steven Gaitman, Mizhirumbay's attorney.
During the hearing, Destiny White delivered a victim impact statement, describing the milestones her father has missed since his death.
"I'm pregnant now, got engaged this year, and I haven't really been able to enjoy either of those things because I've been dealing with the sadness of this whole thing," she said. "He did not need to be driving drunk, did not need to be driving so fast."
Mizhirumbay did not speak during his sentencing. However, his attorney said he was remorseful for his actions.
Mizhirumbay's family declined to speak with the media.
