An hourslong police standoff at a Farmingville apartment complex kept residents inside and blocked others from returning home Monday, authorities and witnesses said.
Suffolk County police confirmed that officers responded to Fairfield Hills North at Farmingville along Horizon View Drive following a 911 call at approximately 7:15 a.m. Police stated that it was a barricaded situation, but emphasized there is no threat to the general public.
The heavy law enforcement response drew at least a half-dozen police cruisers and two SWAT vehicles to the scene, shutting down local access points.
Neighbors reported seeing a sudden surge of police activity early in the morning.
Monique Williams, a resident of the East Hills block within the same complex, said she left her home around 9:30 a.m. and saw officers speeding down the block. When she returned in the evening, she was met with road closures, barricades, and a lack of communication from property management.
"It is concerning because we don't know what's going on, but I don't know what could have been happening," Williams said. "I didn't hear anything, but I do notice that there's barricades, everything cut off. Like we can't go over there."
News 12 reached out to Fairfield Properties for information regarding the incident and whether any tenant safety alerts were issued and is waiting to hear back.
This is a developing story.
